Explosion in Sevastopol as Russian-installed mayor claims drone shot down

An explosion was heard on Tuesday in the Balaklavsky district of Sevastopol in annexed Crimea. The Russian-installed mayor of the city, Mikhail Razvozhayev, wrote that air defence had shot down a drone.

“According to preliminary reports, a drone was shot down in the Kara-Koba area. There was an explosion on the ground, and the grass and bushes caught fire. Fire brigades are already on the spot,” Razvozhayev reported.

Local Telegram channels claim that the explosion occurred near the village of Sakharnaya Golovka.

The area around Kara-Koba Mountain and Sakharnaya Golovka contains four warehouses with ammunition, equipment and weapons, including missiles, according to the map created by journalists from Crimea Realities.

On 4 July, a Crimea Realities correspondent reported a powerful explosion near these military facilities. Russian authorities had earlier warned that they were planning to destroy about a thousand WWII munitions at a range near Kara-Koba.
