Two drones attacked two office towers in the Russian capital overnight, Moscow mayor Sergey Sobyanin reported early Sunday morning.
“A Ukrainian drone attack last night slightly damaged the facades of two city office towers,” the mayor wrote.
The news agency TASS reported citing a source in the local emergency services that there had occurred an explosion in the 50-storey IQ-Quarter building, damaging the windows.
The second explosion occurred in the OKO tower complex, injuring a security guard.
Moscow International Business Centre, where the buildings in question are located, has been evacuated.
The Russian Defence Ministry accused Kyiv of carrying out the attack and claimed that both drones had been “suppressed by electronic warfare systems and crashed on the premises of Moscow-City”.
Another drone was destroyed in the air over the Odintsovo district outside of Moscow, prompting the temporary closure of Vnukovo Airport. Operations returned to normal soon thereafter.
The Defence Ministry further reported that Ukraine had also attempted overnight to attack Crimea with 25 drones, claiming that all of them had been either shot down or suppressed by EW systems.
This is the fourth drone attack on Moscow this month. On 28 July, the Russian Defence Ministry reported that two drones had attempted to attack the capital and its surroundings. On 24 July, one drone crashed into a business centre while another one fell not far from several buildings of the Defence Ministry. Nobody was injured. Another attempted attack was allegedly carried out on 4 July, when air defence systems shot down four drones in the southwestern outskirts of Moscow.
