Occupation authorities: Ukraine takes control of Piatykhatky village in Zaporizhzhia region

Russia’s Defence Ministry claims the attack was repelled

The Ukrainian army has taken control of the village of Piatykhatky, Zaporizhzhia region, head of the Russia-installed occupation administration Vladimir Rogov said.

Russian military bloggers first reported the loss of the village, Rogov later confirmed this report.

“The wave-like offensives of the enemy have yielded results despite their colossal losses. Our artillery is now targeting the enemy who is frantically trying to gain ground in Piatykhatky,” Rogov wrote.

The Ukrainian side is yet to comment on these reports of Piatykhatky’s liberation. The Ukrainian Defence Ministry only mentioned a “tactical success” on the southern axis.

In turn, the Russian Defence Ministry said that the Ukrainian attempt to assault Piatykhatky was repelled. “An attack on the settlement of Piatykhatky has been repelled. More than a dozen tanks, armoured vehicles, and personnel of the Ukrainian army were eliminated,” spokesperson for the Vostok group of forces Oleg Chekhov said.

BBC in Russian notes that if the report turns out to be true, it will be Ukraine’s first victory on this section of the frontline since the counter-offensive began.

According to the latest report of the British intelligence, Moscow and Kyiv are both suffering huge losses in south Ukraine. At the same time, the Russian losses have possibly reached the highest level since March when the battle for Bakhmut was the most intense, the British experts noted.
