Poland bans Russian, Belarusian trucks from crossing its border

Poland will stop entry of trucks with Russian and Belarusian number plates into its territory on 1 June, the Polish Interior Ministry announced as reported by TASS. 

The order will be in place until further notice.

“The movement of goods across the border with Belarus for trucks, tractors, trailers, including semi-trailers, and road trains registered in Belarus or Russia will be suspended from midnight on June 1 (Thursday) until a special order,” the announcement reads.

On 29 May, Poland imposed sanctions against 365 Belarusians. Moreover, Warsaw ordered assets of 20 organisations and 16 individuals “largely linked to Russian capital” to be frozen.

On 23 May, Russia’s lower house of parliament suggested banning transit of Polish cars through Russia. MPs also proposed that the Russian government prohibit Polish drivers from filling up with fuel sold at Russian prices.
