Putin’s spokesman: US behind Kremlin drone attack

The United States are behind the drone attack on the Kremlin, says Dmitry Peskov, Vladimir Putin’s spokesman.

“These efforts to deny [plotting the attack] in Kyiv and DC are absolutely ridiculous. We know well that decisions about such terror attacks are made in Washington DC rather than Kyiv. Kyiv is just the executive of what he’s told to do,” he said, cited by RIA Novosti.

Peskov claims that “it is Washington DC and not Kyiv who designates the targets”. “It’s not every time that Kyiv gets to choose the means [of attack] either. This is also often dictated from across the Atlantic. We know this for sure,” the Kremlin said.

Peskov also added that Vladimir Putin “always keeps patient and composed in such tough, extreme situations, and is clear-headed when it comes to assessing things and giving out orders.”

Russia accused Ukraine of attempting a drone attack on Vladimir Putin’s office in the Kremlin yesterday. Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov clarified that Putin was not in the Kremlin during the attack. The Russian side “reserves the right to take retaliatory measures where and when it sees fit,” the Kremlin added.

The country’s Investigative Committee has initiated charges on the account of a terror attack. Ukraine’s authorities state that Kyiv has nothing to do with the drone attack. The US-based Institute for the Study of War believes the drone attack on the Kremlin was likely a false flag staged by Russia “in an attempt to bring the war home to a Russian domestic audience and set conditions for a wider societal mobilisation”.
