Russian forces carry out massive missile attack on Ukraine, injuring at least 34 in Pavlohrad

In the early hours of 1 May, Russia’s Armed Forces attacked Ukraine, using strategic aviation — 18 air-launched cruise missiles Kh-101/Kh-555, as per Commander-in-Chief of Ukraine’s Armed Forces Valerii Zaluzhnyi.

According to him, Ukrainian air defence shot down 15 out of 18 missiles. Russian forces used nine Tu-95 bombers that were active in the area near the town of Olenegorsk, Russia’s Murmansk region, and two Tu-160 bombers located in the area of the Caspian Sea, Zaluzhnyi added.

At least 34 people were injured in the overnight missile attack on Pavlohrad. 

“People have bruises, fractures, cut and torn wounds, concussions, poisoning by combustion products. Two women, 45 and 55, are in intensive care. The rest are treated as outpatients,” head of the Dnipro region administration Serhiy Lysak says.

Earlier in the night, air raid alarms were sounded in all of Ukraine. In particular, there were explosions in Kyiv: the city military administration reported that air defence destroyed all of the enemy’s UAVs. There are no reports of victims or damage to infrastructure.

The attack was carried out using strategic aviation aircraft, according to the Kyiv authorities. Air raid alarm was on for three hours in the Ukrainian capital.

At least 25 people, including three children, were wounded in the missile attack on the city of Pavlohrad, Dnipro region, head of the local regional administration Serhiy Lysak said. “The enemy attacked with missiles. The servicemen of the ‘East’ Air Command shot down seven of them,” he wrote in a Telegram post.

An industrial enterprise was damaged in the city, a fire started there. In the residential area of the city, 19 multi-storey buildings, 25 private houses, six educational buildings, and five shops were damaged in the attack, Lysak added.

Representative of the occupation “government” Vladimir Rogov also reported on the explosions in Pavlohrad. “According to the info coming from Pavlohrad, Russian strategic aviation carried out a high-precision and very successful strike on ammunition and fuel and lubricants depots as well as the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ air defence systems. It is obvious that this stock would not only be used during the counteroffensive of Ukraine’s Armed Forces that’s being prepared but also serve as a cover from our aviation,” he wrote.

It was reported that air raid alarms were also on in the Donetsk, Vinnytsia, Zhytomyr, Kyiv, Kropyvnytskyi, Cherkasy, Chernihiv, Dnipro, Mykolaiv, Odesa, Poltava, Sumy, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson regions.
