Ukraine has brought back 44 POWs from Russian captivity, Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andrii Yermak reports.
According to Yermak, the number includes 36 soldiers and sergeants as well as six officers and two civilians. Among the returned servicemen are defenders of the Azovstal steelworks and of the Kherson region, Yermak added.
Russia’s Defence Ministry has confirmed that a POW swap took place. As a result of negotiations, Russia was able to bring back 40 servicemen from captivity. “The freed personnel will fly to Moscow by Russian transport aircraft to undergo treatment and rehabilitation in medical facilities of the Russian Defence Ministry,” as per the ministry’s statement.
