Artyom Uss, the son of Alexander Uss, the governor of Russia’s Krasnoyarsk region, has escaped house arrest in Italy, La Stampa and ANSA report. He was earlier detained in the country over an international arrest warrant.
Uss destroyed his ankle tag on 22 March and escaped the apartment he was supposed to stay in before the police arrived.
A few days ago, an Italian court approved a decision to extradite Uss to the United States.
Artyom Uss was arrested in Italy in October last year at the request of the United States. The US Department of Justice considers seven Russians, including Uss, guilty of smuggling oil, exporting military technology from the United States, and money laundering.
The Russians, according to the US Department of Justice, took part in schemes for the sale of oil from Venezuela using shell companies and cryptocurrencies. The department also believes that they purchased dual-use electronics and military technology from the West, which is prohibited by sanctions.
