A Moscow woman was detained by police while paying tribute at a makeshift memorial located where Russian politician Boris Nemtsov was assassinated on this day in 2015, as per RusNews.
The footage of the woman’s detention shows her trying to lay a piece of paper at the memorial with “Борись!” written on it (which roughly translates into English as “Fight!” and is also pronounced in Russian almost the same way as Boris, Nemtsov’s first name). The police detained the woman and forced her to remove the paper from the makeshift memorial. It is unknown where she had been taken next.
Boris Nemtsov, a Russian opposition politician and a fierce critic of Vladimir Putin and the war against Ukraine, was assassinated on 27 February 2015 on the Bolshoy Moskvoretsky Bridge in Moscow, just outside the Kremlin. Tributes to Nemtsov are being paid by numerous Russians nationwide today.
A man named Zaur Dadaev was found guilty of assassinating Nemtsov and sentenced to 20 years in prison in 2017. Four more people were also accused as part of the same case and sentenced to prison terms from 11 to 19 years each. The mastermind behind the assassination has never been found.
