Poland is set to begin construction of an electronic barrier on its border with Russia in March, Polskie Radio reports, citing press secretary of the Polish Border Service Anna Michalska.
“An electronic system on the sector [bordering] with the Kaliningrad region will be powered along about 200 km of land border,” she said.
According to Michalska, the system will have sensors and cameras, which will allow to control the border 24/7 no matter the weather conditions, without having to be present on the border line.
Michalska highlighted the fact that thanks to the system border officers will be able to keep track of the border from the headquarters of the border service, while alerts will be sent in by detection systems. Border guards will react only to real attempts of crossing the border by people and not by animals, she added.
Still, the Polish Border Service notes that the situation on the border with Russia is “stable and calm”.
