Russian MoD: 50 servicemen returned home in latest POW swap

A total of 50 Russian servicemen returned to their home country following a new POW exchange with Ukraine, the Russian Defence Ministry says.

“On 8 January, the negotiation process resulted in the liberation of 50 Russian servicemen, who had been in mortal danger, and their return from Kyiv-controlled territory,” reads the agency’s statement.

The Defence Ministry says all returned servicemen will be transported to Moscow for medical treatment and rehabilitation.

The Ukrainian side has yet to comment on any exchange.

Ukraine’s Office of Prosecutor General has confirmed the exchange:

“Yet another successful POW exchange. We have returned home 50 warriors: 33 officers and 17 privates and sergeants. Those are people taken captive at the Chornobyl NPP, as well as in Mariupol, Bakhmut, Kyiv region, Chernihiv region, Kherson region and elsewhere,” Kyrylo Tymoshenko of Zelensky’s administration wrote.

Russia’s MoD has also published a video with the returned POWs.
