Four people detained in court building after Russian politician Ilya Yashin heard his prison verdict

Four people have been detained in a Moscow court after the judge read out the verdict of Russian politician Ilya Yashin, sending him to prison for 8 years and 6 months, OVD-Info reports.

Andrey Zhvakin, one of those detained, said that law enforcement officers approached him after Zhvakin applauded in the court building. The man was told that he had disobeyed instructions of a justice officer.

Sergey Morar, Natalia Timasheva, and one other man were detained along with Zhvakin. They are all currently held in the court building.

This is not the first time someone is detained at the Yashin case court proceedings. Following one of the hearings, Yashin’s father wanted to speak with him, but people started pushing and shoving, and the father and several other activists were taken to the service premises. Everyone was released soon after.

Earlier today, Yashin was sentenced to 8 years and 6 months in prison for spreading “fakes” about the Russian military. He is also banned from managing websites for 4 years.

The criminal case against Yashin was launched after his live stream where he shared information about the murders in Ukraine’s Bucha. According to the investigators, the politician knew that “the photos and video footage published by the Kyiv regime, which allegedly prove that Russian servicemen were committing illegal acts in Bucha, Kyiv region, represent a provocation”. However, Yashin voiced opinions of both Moscow and Kyiv.
