The United Kingdom’s Prime Minister Liz Truss has announced her resignation, Sky News reports.
“I came into office at a time of great economic and international instability. Families and businesses were worried about how to pay their bills,” she said.
According to Truss, she recognises that “given the situation” she cannot “deliver the mandate” in accordance with which she was elected.
The election of the new party leader and respectively the new prime minister will be conducted “within the next week”.
