Su-34 plane crashes into residential building in south Russia, at least two killed
A Su-34 aircraft has fallen onto a residential building in Yeysk, Russia’s Krasnodar region.
The local emergency service has reported that the plane in question was indeed a Su-34 military jet. The Russian MoD says the plane crashed during a training flight, however, the 112 Telegram channel reports that the plane had full ammunition. The pilot managed to eject himself from the aircraft, Mash says.
It is also reported that the plane crashed into a yard and set a nearby nine-storey apartment block on fire.
A spontaneous combustion during the take off from a nearby military airfield may have caused the crash, MoD says.
There is no data of any casualties as of yet.
A total of 15 apartments were damaged; the fire area is about 2,000 m2, all apartments from the ground floor to the fourth floor are on fire, the local emergency services report.
Veniamin Kondratyev, the local governor, is headed to Yeysk. “All emergency services are on the scene, including the district and regional fire brigades,” he says.
Police has encircled the burning building. The Investigative Committee has launched a criminal procedure.
