Russian politician and journalist Vladimir Kara-Murza, who was previously arrested for spreading “fake news” and participating in the activities of an “undesirable organisation”, has been charged with treason, state news agency TASS reports, citing a source in the law enforcement.
“According to the source, FSB investigators think that Kara-Murza has cooperated with a NATO state for a long time,” the message says.
The politician’s attorney Vadim Prokhorov has not commented on this information yet. The politician may face up to 20 years behind bars on these charges.
In early August, Kara-Murza was charged with “participating in the activities of an undesirable organisation” for holding a conference in support of political prisoners at the Sakharov Centre in Moscow.
The second criminal case against Kara-Murza was opened on 13 July 2022.
