Salman Tepsurkayev, moderator of 1ADAT, a Telegram channel criticising Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov, has been reported dead. Olga Sadovskaya, lawyer at Russian NGO Crew Against Torture (formerly the Committee Against Torture), revealed the news in an interview with journalist Katerina Gordeeva.
“We could not save this man,” she said.
Tepsukaev was kidnapped in September 2020. “We’d been receiving Information about his death for a long time, but we hoped to the last that it wasn’t true and that Salman was alive. We feel it is our duty not to hold back and reveal the information we have been able to obtain during this time,” read a statement on 1ADAT.
According to 1ADAT, Tepsukayev was killed on September 15, when a grenade was inserted into his mouth and detonated from a distance. Prior to that, Tepsukayev was tortured, the post says.
