Death toll following Russian strike on Vinnytsia rises to 26 people

The number of victims following a missile strike on the Ukrainian city of Vinnytsia has risen to 26 people after Olga Lisenko, 20, had died in the hospital, reported the region of Vinnytsia military administration head Serhiy Borzov.

According to Borzov, the woman had burns on 98% of her skin. At the moment of the strike, she was going back home from a visit to a dentist.

Yesterday, the Vinnytsia region military administration Department of Health and Rehabilitation deputy director Tatiana Bondarenko reported that eight people were still in critical condition. Overall, 55 people are still receiving treatment following the missile strike.

Yesterday, Borzov said that Natalya Falshtynska, a doctor, had died in the hospital.

In the morning of 14 July, Kalibr missiles struck a local shopping centre, a hospital parking lot, and a park in Vinnytsia. A total of 26 people were killed in the strike, including three children: 4-year-old Liza, 7-year-old Maksym, and 8-year-old Kyrylo.

The Russian Defence Ministry claimed that the strike had targeted an officers’ club that “hosted a conference of the Ukrainian Armed Force command with representatives of foreign armament suppliers”.

In post-Soviet countries, unlike in the West, an “officers’ club” or “house of officers” is a term used to describe a recreation facility formerly used by servicemen and their families for leisure. The buildings are now mainly used as concert halls in the region and have completely lost any relation with armed forces both in Russia and Ukraine.
