Russian military prosecutor says ‘about 12 officers’ held accountable for involving conscripts in ‘special military operation’

“About 12 officers” were held accountable for involving conscripts in Russia’s “special military operation” in Ukraine, Artur Yegiev, the military prosecutor of the Western Military District, stated.

The prosecutor noted that about 600 conscripts from the Western Military District were involved in the “special military operation”, all of them were transported back to Russia in the shortest possible time. Yegiev did not specify how the officers were held accountable.

In early March, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that conscripts and reserve officers would not take part in the war in Ukraine. Soon after that, the Russian Defence Ministry admitted that there were conscripts within military formations involved in the war. The ministry added that the conscripts were being transported back to Russia. Defence Ministry Spokesman Igor Konashenkov stated that some of them were captured by the Ukrainian forces.
