Three people were detained in the Krasnoyarsk region of Russia over the forest fires. Meanwhile, the fires have already killed eight people, reports the local investigation division.
Employees of the local energy provider were detained; they are accused of mismanagement, negligent homicide and providing services unfit for life and public health.
The investigation suggests that fires broke out in 60 settlements of the Krasnoyarsk region due to a short circuit in electrical wiring and power lines, as well as ‘dry grass’. As a result, 827 buildings were destroyed, including 518 residential buildings, numerous non-residential buildings and 9 social institutions.
