Kaverzina suggested holding an Immortal Regiment event in Novosibirsk, despite the fact that the event was cancelled nationwide this year. Kaverzina invited local residents to lay flower tributes at the local memory alley.

“There will not be any music, this demonstration is unofficial. But we, as grandchildren and great-grandchildren of the victors, should consider this our civil duty,” she wrote.

Kaverzina received a notice from the local prosecutor’s office on 6 May stating that “extremist activities are prohibited”. The office suggests that this demonstration is aimed at “urging the federal bodies of power to abort the special military operation in Ukraine”.

Several locals turned up at the rendezvous point on 8 May and saw police officers there. An old woman brought pictures of her parents with her, but one of the policemen asked not to demonstrate them. “Don't take out your posters, this is an illegal event. The Immortal Regiment rally is scheduled for tomorrow,” he said.

Kalinisky court in St. Petersburg put Viktoriya Petrova, 28, under administrative arrest for ‘spreading fake news about the Russian army’ until 30 June yesterday. She is accused of posting a video statement against the Ukraine War on VK. The investigators insisted that Petrova should be sent into a pre-trial detention centre “to prevent her from committing more crimes.”
